Maria Vinyoles Soler (Marieta)...

... was in charge of the management of this House since the end of the XNUMXth century (1892). Initially, the current location of the no. 5 of the square, was used as a "food house" and no. 6, to the stables that housed animals and carriages on the days of the fruit and vegetable market, in the old Plaza de Saint Augustine (the name derives from the convent of the Augustinians located in the square), better known today as Independence Square.

At the beginning of the XNUMXth century, in the period of growth of the Girona Restaurant Casa Marieta, catering services with accommodation were also offered.

The founder's tenacity was inherited from father to son, until in the year 1992, the work carried out by various generations by the Girona Chamber of Commerce and the Girona City Council was recognized, celebrating the Centenary with the presence of recognized authorities, such as the president of the Chamber of Commerce and other senior officials of the City Council, Provincial Council, Generalitat or Parliament of Catalonia. It was especially at this time, when Casa Marieta achieves the greatest foreign recognition and becomes part of the select group of Centennial Restaurants of Spain.

Lhe vicissitudes of the 4th generation were assumed by the 5th generation, with a change of family, trying not only to maintain the good of the past, but proposing the constant search to reinforce the path and give continuity over time. Between 1995 and 1999 important works were carried out to promote the spirit of Casa Marieta and strengthen complicity with the city.

From this moment… the installations display a symphony of places and images that recall the passing of generations:

The Carbonera Room, It was the place where the coal for the kitchen was stored, today decorated with stained glass using the leaded technique, which narrate the winemaking process from the land to the table.

Here at the coastal area, Through the windows, we can see one of the most important parts of the Costa Brava, the one that delineates the maritime coast from Port de la Selva to Llançà and Portbou. These views are offered to us through pictorial art, simulating that we are in the upper part of the Monastery of San Pedro de Rodas...

We can't forget the Rome area, with its modernist-style benches, the "Coberta" or the Pedrera, that transmit a feeling found with history and that, as if it were in a museum, numerous utensils and ancient elements are discovered in them that bring us closer to the way of life of our ancestors. Special prominence is given to wonderful wishing well, located on the ground floor, which was a source of inspiration for the farmers at the end of the market, where after a good meal in CASA MARIETA, they deposited a coin to project their wishes.

It is worth noting the link between Casa Marieta with the life of the painter Dalí…

... and his wife Gala which is reflected in photographs dedicated to the Restaurant Casa Marieta, even the detail of the wedding registry held in Sant Martí Vell (a town very close to Girona), along with many others that can be seen in our facilities.

Presiding over the main room, we will find a impressive wooden altarpiece that wraps it, with carvings of historical figures and typical locations of the demarcation, starting the tour with the imposing presence of the Girona Cathedral and the church of San Félix, presided over by the patron saint of the city, San Narciso.

Noble materials, wood and stone from the nearby mountains, metal forging and ancestral tools are available to those who visit us, in a constant connection with the history of Girona.

At present, the Centenario Restaurant Casa Marieta, continues being a pillar of the catalan and market cuisine, highlighting some typical dishes, among other of his classics, such as the Duck with Pears, Chicken with Crayfish, the Roast for the Festival, the Oven Shoulder of Lamb, the Sirloin with Foie or the Fish "Suquet" (fisherman's recipe), presented by a team with a willingness to serve, attentive and near.
